Disadvantages of Outsourcing

Posted at 2:14 am under General

Why send work offshore? Ask Paul Kleinmeulman and he will surely tell you, "Because it’s the smartest alternative to hiring your own staff." In ‘Budget Outsourcing’, he explains why it is important for Internet marketers to outsource jobs to increase their profit margin. He shares the secrets to getting quality work done cheaply, on time, and efficiently. Outsourcing is not without its problems, however. As a matter of fact, there are many disadvantages of outsourcing. One of them is the possibility that your provider will only end up wasting your time. After all, your provider and you are not only geographically apart, the two of you are also time zones away.

Clearly, failing to deliver projects on time or at all is only one of the many disadvantages of outsourcing. Control and management issues could also arise. If managing the members of a team is difficult, how much more tough is it to manage people who are halfway across the globe? Then there’s your firm’s exposure. If you are outsourcing software or system maintenance work,  you would have to entrust sensitive information into the hands of your provider. This poses a potential problem. What if your provider misuses his or her access to your system? So you see, as attractive an alternative sourcing out work may be, you should first weigh the advantages and disadvantages of outsourcing before you bundle off tasks to someone in another continent.
